Hello, my name is Dalyn. My husband and myself and our two girls (2.5 and 3 months old) live a few houses in from Nanaimo Street on Adanac Street. As a stay at home mom I have been witness to the ever increasing truck traffic over the last few months. Adanac is a main artery for cyclists and the students walking to Templeton High School. With a perfect view of the stop light from my living room, I daily see several trucks speed through yellow and red lights. I also see cyclists speed through them going the opposite direction as they have the right of way. Students text messaging with their heads down walk out into the intersection without looking. I've seen near death situations on several occasions. I've heard insane road rage from both cyclists and truckers. I listen to air brakes and rattling empty flatbeds ALL DAY LONG. My house shivers and shakes causing it to quickly sink into the ground on an angle - this angle has GREATLY increased over the last few months as have the cracks on my interior and exterior walls.
With summer here we are unable to have our windows open for fresh air if we want to cool down, put our children down for a nap or try and hear our TV and stereo due to the insane amount of noise these trucks create. Even closed, our windows rattle and vibrate with every truck that goes by.
I have decided to create a web space were local residents can come and find ways to be proactive in stopping these trucks from invading our neighbourhood.
